Both of my parents were diagnosed with PA. Mum is on 2 monthly injections and relatively OK. Dad progressed to dementia and sadly died 14/2/13. Despite my own levels being 'normal' I have some symptoms. Jac.

It has in Quebec because they have been screening new born babies for quite a few years...they take a sample of urine. Quebec has done this since 1973 as one Quebec family had several children born with methylmalonic aciduria. They now test for 18 inborn errors of metabolism.

But it has stayed in Quebec only..the screening isn't done in the rest of the country.

I was reading something that said the level of diagnoisis was set too high and cases were being missed. I suppose this may still be something to watch out for but anything is better than nothing.

To truly understand the effects of stress and b12 levels, Scottish scientists ought to experience being a victim of the Scottish Health System when trying to get the seriousness of b12 deficiency identified.

In my humble opinion the Scottish Health System causes more piggin' stress than you can shake a stick at!!!!!

They make me that sick I've had to go out and buy yet more b vitamins today to see if it will help my condition because their health system stressed me out so much.

Rant over.

Trouble is, even when they do take it seriously they base their studies on deficient b12 serum levels. Flawed from the start.

Was just thinking about the DM Article. Although it is a big step forward they are only recommending 2.5 mcg a day. I guess this would not be sufficient for a B12d deficient Mum to be?
There are couple of interesting comments at the bottom of the article about a gene variant and ability to metabolise pharma contrived Folic acid....does anybody know of the evidence for this?
