Lessix, since this thread has so many interesting articles, can I add one I just came across? It talks about the link between acid suppressants and B12 deficiency.

Dear all,

i did ask why IM and not SC injections and was told IM act faster and go further into your muscle and because b12 injection are IM - they are not like diabetic injections hence i wouldn't be allowed to do them

In the end one of the nurses showed me how to inject IM, But they hadn't come across a patient who wanted to do b12 injections themselves, so the battle was very long !

best wishes

I am a support person for my daughter who was diagnosed with PA and Folate Anaemia in 1994, at the age of 27. Another daughter diagnosed with Hashimotos 2010 but she doesn't have PA.

As far as I know its all logical as in the body produces faulty bloodvells (macrocytosis, caused by B12 def) and these die quickly, the dead bloodcells are filetrred our of the bloodstream and that is bilirubin' results in raised bilirubin . You will find that info in most PA articles in info and research section...That one gets forgetfull is also logical as in faulty bloodcells do not contain enough oxygen so lack of oxygen to the brain..well all my simple explanations anyway! Marre.

And it is a good explanation, Marre. Docs seem to forget that an elevated bilirubin and an enlarged or swollen liver are all signs of advanced PA.

Thanks both. I've seen bilirubin mentioned often as you say, Marre; enlarged liver is a new fact for me although penny has just dropped that haemo always checked Dad's liver. Is that the same as fatty liver, Pat?

I used to get really draining neck & shoulder pain, every day, building in intensity as the day wore on. With a lot of swearing from me and patience from Hubs, we eventually cottoned on that the lactic acid could be firmly kneaded away. DOH! The great thing is, since B12 treatment, I don't need that nightly torture anymore. Bliss.

Hi lessix.

Yes, a swollen liver or enlarged liver is the same as a fatty liver. I have also read of several cases where an enlarged spleen has been present in PA patients.

Just edited the first few paras on Wikipedia after somebody on Twitter told me how easy it is. Such fun. Have I got it right mods? Have fun socking it to 'em. Wondering how long it will take the naysayers to notice. :character-jason:

That's good. Thanks Andrea. The links haven't been taken down yet but I guess it is Christmas. :) I have added the PAS forum and created a section called "Patient Forums". Is PAS ok with that? I am thinking of adding a section called "B12 Researchers" what do you think? I could use some help with that if any body is familiar with them.
